Bride's looking for an idea for a theme for their wedding will love today's Grace Kelly-inspired big day! Bride, Tania is a huge fan of the 50's star, and chose her Justin Alexander wedding dress based on her unique, elegant style. This in turn led to 50's inspired stationery, bridesmaid dresses {by Mori Lee}, traditional bonbon favours, and even the vintage suitcase as a wedding card postbox. I'm head-over-heels for their barn wedding venue, booked on a leap of faith, considering it wasn't even finished when they made the reservation! Add in a stunning bouquet of roses and eucalyptus, groom Tegid, in his morning suit, and two lovely late-1950s Daimlers for wedding transport, and I'm in wedding-heaven! We got married in the Midlands on 31st August 2013. The ceremony was held at St John the Baptist's Church in Middleton, followed by our reception at Shustoke Farm Barns in Coleshill.
I am a big fan of Grace Kelly! So my dress was very much inspired by her timeless look. We therefore had a hint of a 50s vintage theme throughout the wedding, from the 50s inspired design on the stationery, the style of the bridesmaid dresses, the traditional bonbons for favours, all the way through to our vintage suitcase, which we used as a wedding card postbox.
We chose the traditional Wedding March for me to walk up the aisle and left as man and wife to 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' which we liked because it was upbeat. and felt suited to that higher energy feeling after people have just been wed!
The fabulous church choir also sang two Beach Boys numbers during the signing of the register – which really entertained our congregation whilst we were out the back.
SGR Vintage Hair and Make-up made me look beautiful. Sarah Russell did an excellent job at being calm and serene during the mayhem of all the ladies getting ready! She also made me feel Grace Kelly-like walking down the aisle.
My wedding dress was a Justin Alexander design. It was such a classic and graceful design full of vintage 50s sophistication. I loved the lace which was definitely a nod to Grace Kelly's own wedding dress, but the style wasn’t too fussy. Simple and elegant. I loved wearing it all day, and felt a real princess!
I borrowed my gorgeous silk veil from my sister-in-law {to be} so was delighted to be able to continue a family tradition by wearing it on our special day. My hairpins were from Glitzy Secrets, my pearl earrings were borrowed from my other sister-in-law, and my bracelet was my 'something old', a vintage bracelet from an antique shop.
My shoes were by Benjamin Adams. They had the same 50's style I was looking for – and once I realised they were called ‘Grace’ I knew they were meant to be!
My husband was very keen to wear the traditional morning suit and we chose Austin Reed to supply his, and the other groomsmen’s outfits.
We had two lovely late 1950s Daimlers from Finishing Touches Cars to transport the bridal party. Steve who drove my dad and I to the church, was incredibly good at making me feel very relaxed, and calming all last-minute butterflies before my big entrance!
We chose Claretys for our wedding flowers. They're a local florist near to my mum's house. They were very professional, and I liked the look and feel of their previous displays.
The two ladies who ran the shop were also very attentive and listened to what we were looking for, but were great at advising what combination of buds would complement each other, and which flowers might not work. I felt they also offered great value and I would certainly recommend them again!
Our wedding photographers were Ben and Hannah of HBA Photography. We discovered them at a wedding fayre and they were the first supplier we booked! Their work stood out from the competition as they clearly had a natural talent for creating stunning and creative photos that were quirky and fun, as well as capturing the more traditional wedding shots.
As a bonus, HBA Photography were super friendly on the day, and worked tirelessly to capture the various types of shots we had included in our brief.
